Support Feline Care & Adopt
At Feline Canopy of Care, our mission is to ensure every cat is placed in a safe, loving, and lifelong home. As part of that commitment, we carefully consider the needs of both our cats and their adopters.
Kittens and young cats are energetic, playful, and often underfoot. They require an active home, frequent interaction, and a long-term commitment that can span 15–20 years or more. Their playful behavior may include climbing, scratching, darting between feet, and other activities that can increase the risk of trips or falls for some individuals.
For applicants 65 years of age or older who wish to adopt a kitten or young cat (generally under 2 years of age), Feline Canopy of Care requires a co-signer or approved backup caregiver as part of the adoption process.
The co-signer agrees that, should the adopter become unable to care for the cat due to illness, disability, relocation to a care facility, or death, they will assume responsibility for the cat or work with Feline Canopy of Care to ensure the cat remains in a safe and loving home.
This policy is not intended to discourage older adults from adopting. Many older adopters provide exceptional homes for cats. Rather, it is designed to:
Every adoption application is reviewed individually. We are happy to work with applicants to find the cat whose personality, age, and activity level are the best match for their lifestyle and home.
Our goal is simple: happy adopters, happy cats, and forever homes.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, veterinary care, parasite treatments, and microchip registration. Any leftover funds go to support the cost of litter, food, and medical care for our fosters and resident cats at The Witty Whisker Cat Cafe in St. Augustine, FL. With kittens we prefer to have a feline companion or adopt a friend:

When you adopt from Feline Canopy of Care, you're doing so much more than welcoming a new family member into your home—you are helping save lives.
We are a 100% foster-based rescue, which means we do not have a shelter or building. Every cat and kitten in our program lives in a loving foster home where they receive daily care, socialization, and lots of love while they wait for their forever families.
Our rescue is run entirely through the generosity of our community. We rely on donations, dedicated volunteers, and incredible foster families who open their homes and hearts to cats in need.
Before a cat or kitten is available for adoption, we provide essential medical care to help give them the healthiest start possible.
This includes:
Many of the cats and kittens who come into our rescue have been abandoned, born outdoors, or rescued from difficult situations. Some arrive sick, injured, or underweight. Our goal is to ensure they are healthy, comfortable, and ready for a loving home.
✔ Spayed or neutered
✔ Microchipped
✔ Tested for FIV and FeLV (combo tested)
✔ Vaccinated against rabies (when age appropriate)
We also include lifetime microchip registration with every adoption, giving your cat permanent identification at no additional cost.
Many people are surprised to learn that adoption fees cover only a portion of what we spend on each cat.
Your adoption fee helps pay for:
The remaining costs are covered through donations and fundraising efforts from compassionate supporters like you.
None of this would be possible without our amazing foster families. They provide safe homes, late-night bottle feedings, medications, transportation to veterinary appointments, endless cleaning, and countless hours of love and patience. They help frightened cats learn to trust, teach playful kittens how to socialize, and prepare every cat for a successful transition into their forever home.
Our volunteers and fosters are the heart of Feline Canopy of Care, and our donors make it possible for us to continue saying "yes" to cats that have nowhere else to go.
When you adopt from Feline Canopy of Care, you're not just changing one life—you are helping us continue our mission of rescuing, healing, and finding loving homes for cats in need.
Thank you for believing in rescue, supporting our foster families, and helping us give every cat the second chance they deserve.
